Marty,

Do you know the process to turn the Pop-up blocker off in IE? When I was in the Philippines I had to use Internet Cafe's and they all run IE...I got fustrated and downloaded Mozilla(I rarely..never use IE since all systems here run OS/2, eComStation, or DRDOS7.03+WFW3.11). I must have installed Mozilla on at least a dozen machines while there...but one cafe deleted the installation after reboot...the key is to not reboot :D)

Recent versions of IE make it easier I think. They present a bar at the top of the page when a popup has been blocked. If you click on it, you can tell it to allow popups from this page, then reload the page.

Older versions are a pain in the ass, and I couldn't tell you offhand. It's buried somewhere in the security settings.

get it up and running, then tweak from there. If you have the login page working, then your Java is just fine. Also, if your port wasn't opened in a firewall, then I don't think you'd get the login prompt (but I might be mistaken on that). I think the login Java applet does some initial communication with the DTOC server before it asks for your username and password.

Addressing the Desktop on Call Issue:

Some internet providers block port 80 now, which is the default port used by the HTTP Server in Desktop on call. It is generally safe to change this default port to something above 5000(5000 works) and make sure you open that port in your firewall. The notebook settings for this are found in the "Host PC Setting" tab(the Blue one).
Also you need to open up ports 25345 through 25351 as these are the additional default ports required by Desktop on Call. The settings for this are found on the "server Function tab(Green) of the notebook settings.

I'll add that I found that DTOC does not allow setting "high" port numbers for its web server out of the box. I already run a web server on my box, so port 80 is occupied. I wanted DTOC to run on 8080 when I activate it, but you can't edit that in when you edit the settings in the GUI. DTOC will gladly run off of port 8080, but you have to hack it into the DTOC.INI file located under the "system" directory of your DTOC installation tree.

None of the parameters are spelled out there, and there is the ominous "Don't edit" warning at the top of the file, but nonetheless you can change the server port here. It's under the first 5 digits of the long string under the session name settings ("[Default]" on my system). I changed them to 08080 and it works like a charm, as long as you don't try to edit those settings in the GUI configuration tool.

What version of Desktop on Call you running? With version 4 all you do is click on the "Properties" button when Desktop on Call is launched. This opens a "Properties of Desktop on Call" Notebook. The first tab opened by default is the "Host PC Settings" (Blue Tab). In this tab is an entry called "HTTP Server". There is a text entry box called "Port"...edit that with 8080 then click the "Apply" button then the "OK" button. Then close the notebook. You will need to restart Desktop on Call for the settings to be effective.

That should work as that is they way I have done it here many times.
