Re: bad news

Yea I hate it too. In fact I have not been able to make myself spend on the
latest updates or eCS since they don't either really seem like much of a deal.
My latest battle just to get OS/2's boot manager loaded on a 37GB LVD SCSI drive
has been a real pain. Anybody know if there is a way for grub to chain load an
OS/2 install that is bootable but will not set active, or allow BootManager to
install, the install disks trapout on the SCSI driver, a Symbios dual channel
that actually works fine with and boots OS/2 (on an older 4.5gb SE drive that
was installed with a Buslogic card). It does not have a problem with R/W/FDisk
ops, other than installing bootman or setting the active flag. Yes I tried
DFSee as well, no help for me on this issue. I may buy System Commander yet, but
hate too as I am tired of throwing good money at bad. I guess I might find
another use for it later, who knows, sigh.

What I would really like to see is a way to run OS/2 virtualized under Linux or
maybe Solaris or Open Solaris, or even OSX. I don't know how I will do without
Pronews, and I prefer Impos/2 and PMView over Linux offerings, even gimp. All
the other wares like CBased security, Deskman/2, Object Desktop, all soon to be
next to useless, shame, shame, shame. Plus there the old 16 bit Windows stuff
like Keycad and 3DHome that I would miss a lot too, maybe wine will run them
now, it wouldn't last time I tried.

I just installed a $5.00 eBay purchased distro of Fedora Core4 on a new P4 ( the
ole PII333 finally bite the dirt). Fedora with KDE 3.4.x is actually pretty nice
and zippy, with a lot of solid apps, and I do like some of the features of a
Linux system, mainly that they stay pretty current, and inexpensive. I intend to
install Solaris and/or Open Solaris soon though I have misgivings about the
collusion of SUN with M$ lately. I wonder if they are not trying to marginalize
Linux with the opening of Solaris. IBM seems to have a lot of its eggs in the
Linux basket, though they could care less about the desktop market, its the
server market all these companies are fighting over, they surrendered the
desktop to M$ years ago.

Damned shame that IBM can't seem to open up OS/2 instead of grand standing about
releasing a bunch of nearly useless code with nearly ready to expire patents.
Who knows Billy G. may own more of OS/2 than anyone. I for one will never trust
IBM again, after many hundreds of $$, and irreparable damage to my reputation,
all spent on a dead end that did not have to be, they have created a very
dissatisfied customer. Ole Red Foreman has a name for these types, dumbasses!

Kudos though for the many talented folks that actually produced the code and to
those that continued to work hard to support OS/2 customers, lately in a
apathetic or even outright hostile envioment at that. My jabs are for the
machevellin control freaks, bean counters and marketing idiots that tossed aside
a great treasure out of simple lack of creativity or vision. They deserve to be
taken to the wood shed by Sun and M$ if it happens. Please note Apple gave IBM
the ole raspberry on the PPC hardware too, serves em right! But then again they
like so many of todays corporate crooks can just layoff a few thousand more
productive workers and give themselves some big fat back slaps and bonuses, and
continue to ride another great company into the mud.

A sad, sad day seems to be lurching our way ........ goes with the times I
guess, looking at the mess the world is in generally due to other crooks and
incompetent dumbasses, this little blurb should not surprise us in the least.
