I have a Fujitsu Stylistic 2300 Notepad, without a floppy drive.
It had Win 95 on it but some of the files are corrupted Windows won't run
and I can only the Command Prompt - Safe Mode. The CD rom feeds it's data
through the PCMCIA port. It has Ir and USB and a serial port. Because the
Windoze doesn't work I can't get the USB, Ir or PCMCIA to work and I can't
load floppies because there isn't a floppy drive.
My thoughts are to try and load DOS drivers for the CD/PCMCIA port through
a null modem cable via the serial ports from a Win 2000 PC. Then I can
edit the config.sys and Autoexec to load the cd drivers and hopefully get
the CD Rom to work and install Win 98 so that the Ir port and USB will
work.
So far all my attempts have failed. I have a shareware program called
Terra Term Pro (hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html) that tells
me I am passing the 34k bytes of the software (ArcCD.sys)to the Com1 port
successfully but I can't see the file on the Notepad.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it as I have run out of ideas.
The interlink server from DOS 6 has an ability to bootstrap the client to
another machine over the serial port - IIRC all you need is a COPY CON
command. I haven't tried it under Win98, but it might work. That would
let you copy files on/off the machine over the serial port.
Failing that, I'd probably just pull the hard drive from the portable,
put it in another machine (with a floppy drive), boot it to command
mode and copy on the files you need.
Btw - in case you have trouble getting the CD to work, here is a link to
a driver which lets you access USB mass-storage devices from DOS
This might let you plug on a USB hard drive:
