Correct. _Unless_ there is no CD in the drive,? _or_ the BIOS cannot
see the (CD) drive. In that case, the machine will try to boot from the
HD.
I presume from all that you have said so far, the CD drive is built-in
to the laptop, and not an add-on plugged into PCMCIA or USB ports.
Correct?

It is beginning to sound as though you were not able to correctly wipe
the HD in the first place, in which case you may indeed have to repeat.

WME?? GAAA!! ;-)) If we can't figure out something else that works,
this is a good option to see if the machine can even _see_ the CD drive.
If the drive is faulty/not connected properly, no driver will make the
machine see it.
