In some cases, the reason is simply that the market doesn't show enough
interest. Nobody knows about the product!
Here is an example. See my web page at:
www.geocities.com/wilkes_charlie/dosbox.htm
for a screen shot of Envision Publisher Pro. I already own a registered
copy, from back in the 1990s. As far as I know, there is nothing half as
good available for DOS anywhere else. It's a better interface than any
version of MS Word for DOS, Windows or anything else. It's so different
from WP 5.1 that comparisons aren't really relevant -- WP is for power
users, Envision rules for quick, intuitive page design.
But nobody knows about it!!! It is not to be found on the Internet
except as a 30-day expiring version, and even that is hard to locate.
I was able to track down the author - julianachim@xxxxxxxxx - and my
inquiry was the first he had gotten for a long time. He will be glad to
sell Envision by check or money order, at a price of $35 for the pro
version or $25 for the standard version, a substantial discount from his
original pricing. It would be nice to see him get enough sales to keep
this product available and perhaps even motivate him to put up a web site
for sales and support.
I intentionally did not seek a mailing address for Mr. Achim because I
think people should do what you do -- make sure the author will respond
to contact, and only then send money.
Charlie
