This is actually a VMware error. Try the VMware forums to see if there is
more known on this bug. Alternatively, you can try expanding the amount of
memory you assign the virtual machine.

Thanks Jens,

I figured out, and could install Minix as well as packages using
packman!
The key was, to use VMware configuration 6 only and not 4 or 5 or even
6.5 (which don't work for Minix3.1.2a )
