I think I am missing a file: ... /var/log/XLogFile.0.log shows:

Where should the missing config file be, and should a default file
have been installed with X? Or is there a script somewhere that should
generate it? Or can someone post or send me a sample file I can edit?
I looked at my X86 configuration on a Linux box. The X log there
refers to a config file at /etc/X11/XF86Config, but I can find no file
by that name anywhere on my Minix system. Is this the right location
for the config file on Minix?
Using the model from the Linux box I guess I might be able to piece
together an XF86Config file on Minix, but the Linux one was apparently
generated by a script, pyxf86config, which I then modified by hand to
select my preferred monitor resolution. I can't find the script itself
on the Linux box, however, nor can I find anything like this on the
Minix installation (python is installed, however).
Can anyone tell me what is missing? Did some part of the Minix #
installation fail, or has a script to generate a config file not yet
been ported to Minix?
I made a little progress with my X display. I was using a small
laptop-style keyboard on my Minix box without a separate numeric
keypad. Minix does not recognize the use of Scroll-Lock to enable some
of the regular keys to function as a numeric keypad (at least on this
particular keyboard), and the shift-alt-+/- keys to change video mode
in X work only with the numeric keypad + and - keys. When I
substituted a full-size keyboard I was able to change the resolution
to several alternatives that are more friendly to my monitor, and now
I have multiple xterms and other X apps running. However, I cannot
change the virtual desktop size, so what I see is a movable 1024x768
window on a larger virtual desktop. For my present purposes I'd rather
be able to have Minix start by default with the real and virtual
desktops identical and compatible with my monitor. I'd also like to be
able to go back to using the mini keyboard, which would suit me fine
if X would start with a usable desktop.
Another thing I would like to configure is the mouse. I'm accustomed
to chording with a two-button mouse to do a paste operation when
working in X, but the default configuration expects a three button
mouse.
There are a number of other minor things about the X configuration
that are relatively minor nuisances that I can work around. One is the
necessity to start X as root, and the weird PATH that results (it
includes /usr/ucb, which doesn't exist on my Minix system, and it
doesn't include /usr/local/bin. where a lot of the new goodies are
located. Also, the MANPATH doesn't include the X man pages. These are
things I can fix for myself, but I'd suggest at some time they should
be configured as defaults when X is installed.
So... at this point X is usable for me. I can edit several documents
simultaneously in multiple xterms on a Minix machine, with cutting and
pasting between them. But I'm hoping someone can help me out with some
of the configuration issues.
