I also recall a "DRIVE C" ramdisk for the Osborne, back in the day. It fit
in the right hand diskette pocket.
I'm sure several people have tried hacking CP/M to get it to work with
semiconductor storage instead of disks. I did it once years ago - Put a
512K flash chip in an IMSAI 8080. It was so much cleaner - no
track/extent/skew/etc. BS to worry about. I used 4 ports to control the
thing, I just loaded up an address, and bam, there was the data. Not an
efficient design, but still faster and more reliable than disks.
Mechanical devices, like disk drives, will wear out faster and fail first.
I think it's an excellent idea to try semiconductor storage if you want to
keep the old iron running for another 20 years!

Back in "the day," I bought a third-party RAMdisk for my Kaypro 4 84. I
can't recall the name of the company, but it was based in Bend, OR, as I
recall.
The RAMdisk was 2 Mb, and plugged between the printer and the Kaypro
printer port (which was, contrary to reports, bidirectional). It worked
great, and was lightning fast.
