I have the system now booting to rdos so the hardware seems ok.
The system has a z80/68010, 64fdc with dual tandon tm-100 and 2048 MSU and a
tuart card
I have been trying to get the system to boot using some 8" qume 242 drives and
the heads load now and the drive seems to read the boot track and fails. I have
a few old cromemco 8 disks that I had but have no idea if they are good so I'm
going to try to use my CCS boot disk with the terminal changes that are needed.
The question is Has anyone ever gotten qume or shugart 850 to boot using the
FDC64 controller with CP/M?
Does anyone have 5 1/4" CPM or CDOS disks for this beast. I have read allot on
the web and the Cromemco disk controller card seem like the CCS disk controller
but would like to chat with anyone else that has a cromemco system or disk
controller. I also have a 16fdc that works but have been trying to get this
system to boot with the 64fdc.
I know about the images that are available but don't have my 8" floppy working
on a pc now. Thanks for the help
I have a system called 'RT' (Rdos Transfer) which works with my 16FDC to create
disks on the Cromemco. Basically the PC loads a small client which reads tracks
from the PC over the serial port and writes them to the disk - this is how I got
my first 8" system up and running. This will let you make boot disks without
having to connect the drive to the PC - but it's slow, very dependant on the
version of RDOS that you have, and will likely be harder to make work than
just hooking up the drive to a PC.
Note that I created and tested RT under a 16fdc, so if you might find it easier
to switch to that controller until the disks are made.
I also have 5.25" and 8" Cromemco images for both CDOS and CROMIX, as well
as 8" CP/M on my site in ImageDisk format. That Qumetrack 242 drive you are
using is the exact model I have connected to a PC, so it will work fine - My
site describes a very easy to make adapter which will let you plug it into a
standard 5.25" floppy drive cable connection. You can power it off the Cromemco
box - shouldn't be all that hard to get together.
