CP/M-to-DOS conversion update:

Thanks to all of you who so generously offered your expertise to help
me with my predicament, though some of the suggestions were beyond my
limited comprehension.
I created the "rescue disk" (or "startup disk") on my
friend's Windows 95 PC (from the tab in the Control Panel for
Add/Remove Programs).
I was able to boot up with this disk (his computer BIOS indicated a
boot sequence of A: then C: drives).
However, just before getting the A: DOS prompt, the boot sequence gave
these messages:
Starting Windows 95
Microsoft ® Windows 95
© Copyright Microsoft Corp, 1981-1995
A:>
Windows 95 did NOT load, we didn't get the big shredded Microsoft
flag, blue sky, etc. just the black screen and the A: dos prompt.
But the 222DISK.EXE CDIR and CTOD utilities did NOT work, either when
executed from the floppy (I copied them there) or when I switched to
the C: drive, where I also had them.
In every case, the computer tried to read the B: 5.25-inch drive with
the CP/M Wordstar diskette, then gave me this error message:
CDIR copyright 1988 Sydex, All Rights Reserved
Kaypro 2X/4X DSDD 5.25: version
Error Reading Diskette B: --
Drive not ready
Retry, Abort, Ignore...
I didn't seem to be in a DOS shell, but it wouldn't work. I tried
several of my friend's CP/M diskettes, same message. My command line
for a directory went like this:
A: CDIR /K1 B:
(the /K1 is for Kayrpo, but I also tried the command without this)
Not sure of next step. But I just bought another CP/M to DOS program
from eBay. Has anybody tried this, which purports to work WITHIN
Windows 9x and to read various kinds of 5.25 CP/M floppies?
SmartDisk CP/M- MSDOS FORMAT CONVERSION SOFTWARE CD
Again, thanks to all
