Has less to do with the Compaq itself, and more to do with
the hard disk, the controller card and the DOS version.
Pre-owned ISA-buss RLL and IDE disk controllers can usually
be gotten for peanuts -- and there are older RLL and IDE hard
disks that approach and exceed the 1 gigabyte range.
The controller handles the disk geometry; lack of large hard
drive support in the CMOS simply isn't a problem.
Plus, you can install more than one hard drive...so disk space
shouldn't be much of an issue.

Of course, you could always use the 286 as a 'Net server for
a CP/M-based computer. :)
