Right - basically DDS's interoperability today is where CORBA was in
the early 90's before GIOP/IIOP was defined as an interoperability
standard. As usual, the challenges to defining an interoperability
standard aren't really technical (i.e., we know how to get
interoperability at this point since it's been done earlier in the
context of things like CORBA), they are political/economic.
Fortunately, there's a lot of motivation to get this right, so I
suspect this issue will be resolved relatively quickly.
BTW, I find it ironic the extent to which ZeroC's marketing
positioning sounds a lot like Microsoft's, i.e., bash open standards,
embrace proprietary solutions. Ah, how the worm turns ;-)
