I have a system using Sendmail and Dovecot for pop/imap

Procmail is a delivery agent that take the email that Sendmail hands to
it and delivers it to the local mail store.
I'm not sure how Dovecot interfaces with Sendmail, but after a quick
Google I can't find any thing specific. However seeing as how all
references I looked at did not mention Procmail at all, nor did they
mention any thing special (think like Courier's ""deliver) I'm guessing
that Dovecot just reads the systems mail store /var/spool/mail/<user
name>. As such, you should be able insert Procmail in the mix with out
much problem.
As far as I can see, sendmail can send emails perfectly? so should I
use Procmail?
Procmail is being used to conditionally send replies to the emails that
it receives. Even at that, Procmail uses Sendmail to send the emails on
its behalf. Procmail just hands the emails off to Sendmail and let's it
do the actual sending.
2) I wish to handle several domain name with ONE sendmail machine.
Not a problem. Look in to Sendmail's virtual hosting support.
I am also using Squirrelmail. But as far as I can see, Squirrelmail
can only manage ONE domain name?
Eh, yes and no. SquirrelMail by default is only meant for one
configuration. That configuration can successfully work with as many
user accounts that will work with a given SMTP and IMAP server. So if
you have multiple domains all using the same SMTP and IMAP server
SquirrelMail will work out of the box with them. However SquirrelMail
will also look the same for all of them. If you want, you can have
multiple copies of SquirrelMail for each domain with its own appearance
and / or config. There is also a SquirrelMail add on meant for virtual
hosting that will help in this regard too.
- How can I be able to connect and send email either :
user1@xxxxxxxxxxx
or
user1@xxxxxxxxxxx ?
If you want to have email clients connect to your SMTP server and send
as what they are configured as, you don't need to do any thing special.
However I would recommend AuthSMTP.
You need to look in to Sendmail's Masquerading and Gerics(table) support
if you want to be able to send from the command line.
Thanks and regards.

Grant. . . .
Hi Grant,
1) Well.. I am pretty sure that my system doesn't use Procmail.
and Devecot, is a POP/IMAP server
So, To retrieve email, with my email client, I use Devecot
Sending Emails, just an basic connection to Sendmail is enough
But OK.. I will tried to see a bit more deeply with procmail...
2) So.. yes, I have 2 domains and Sendmail can Receive emails -> THat's
OK. But If want to send emails by my command line -> I have no choice :-(
I succeed in having different domain name, if I configure my CLIENT
email... but I cannot act on Sendmail itself.
Concerning Suirrelmail, I have no other choice than installing different
copies of Squirrelmail ?
No possibility to select a ' FROM ' and select different sender name ??
Yes, I will see the authSMTP config fairly soon :-)
Thanks again
.
