Not only? where else would they be..
Usually in the file you have mentioned yourself (local-host-names).
It will append the domains to list of email domain delivered locally.
got it.. just didn't understand the way you phrased it originally
There are *MANY* ways. In sendmail you face classic
"multiple choice overload" problem :-)
lord don't i know :-)
I personally suggest for "email only accounts" using "Cyrus IMAP like"
POP/IMAP server that avoid need to create per mailbox OS accounts.
sounds very good to me too.
It is a way suggested at sendmail.org site but there are other ways:
* using POP/IMAP server capable to handle "user@domain" mail "logins"
e.g. CyrusIMAP can handle such mailboxes *without* per mailbox OS
accounts
thanks. i got it now.. "Cyrus" Imap/Pop is different than vanilla imap/
pop.
it affords the non OS account functionality i'm looking for..
Sendmail passes messages destined for local mailboxes to "local mailer"
*program*. Classic "local mailers" programs deliver message to OS
account mailbox but you can use programs that deliver messages to
mailboxes organized differently.
already understand.. just didn't get that cyrus imap offered the non
OS account functionality
now i know!
* if you are ready to be a tester:
it is possible to make sendmail.cf handle properly OS accounts named
"user@domain" *without* special virtusertable entries such as
user@domain user\@domain
how? where? what's the benefit of doing it that way?
It is a longer story with long list of subtle details.
i'm sure it is! ;-)
Sendmail *IS NOT* POP/IMAP server. You must tell which POP/IMAP
server you would like to integrate with sendmail to get such
functionality.
I know.. sorry if i led you to believe i didn't understand that aspect
of it.
Classic POP/IMAP servers are based on OS accounts' mailboxes
[ per OS account files in /var/mail directory ]
but there also "OS account less" POP/IMAP servers such as Cyrus-IMAP.
understand thanks..
P.S.
*IF* you want a "simplicity" *THEN* try to locate good "step by step"
instruction how to set up virtual mailboxes (with sendmail).
e.g.http://www.sendmail.org/tips/virtual-hosting.php
yeah.. that looks pretty good.. i should be able to take it from here
and then ask more specific questions.. thanks..
specific question:
does any type of cyrus support needs to be built into sendmail in
order for sendmail to use external / Cyrus-IMAP?
i did:
# ldd `which sendmail` | grep -i cyrus
and i don't see any lib with cyrus as a name component..
fyi, i believe sendmail needs sasl support and maybe ssl lib support
if i want to TLS encrypt the client connection to the IMAP server..
thanks
if that is correct???....
do you know if
Do you know if sendmail-8.13.8-2.el5
.
