squirrelmail probelm --Error opening ../data/default_pref

Dear all,

I have installed the squirrelmail by default when redhat 8 was installed.
the config file have also setup via. conf.pl. Note that its directory is
moved to the other place as follows

ln -s /usr/share/squirrelmail/ /home/htdocs/mail.

However the directory prefs/ is still at the /usr/share/squirrelmail, why?

We open the website for the webmail and login in, then the error will be
shown as

Error opening ../data/default_pref
Default preference file not found!
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.

Note that we have change the authority of the file "default_pref" to
everyone.
