I don't have complete control over the configuration of the first server
(with out paying more, or moving, neither of which I want to do). Right
now, partly due to the contract I got when the company was starting, I pay
very little for a hosting solution that gives me almost everything I could
wish for. With regards to mail, I can alter the rules in the sendmail.cf,
but not control syslog logging or install milters.
I have no control over the second server, I just have an account, but it
is very convenient for various other reasons.
Even if I put proper spam control on the first server then I couldn't be
sure I would reject the same messages as the second server, so I could
still end up with some rejects causing bounces (though I agree it would
not be as many).
I don't want to reject the spam anyway, I use temporary accounts to track
what organizations are sending spam after I or a few other people have
been in contact with them.
If I don't find a rule based way to archive the rejections (instead of
bouncing) then I will check if my account on the second server can be
modified to not reject anything from the first server, but I would prefer
to control this myself to the extent that I can.

: Everything is open-source and well maintained.
When I was responsible (i.e. paid) for maintaining some email systems then
I set up that sort of thing, but now I do other things and have much less
control over my mail environment.
