Most of the gui browsers seems to have little trouble displaying html pages
that include a number of image files, that are sourced in the main html
file.
Pine seems to behave differently: It splits the main html file, and the
image files that go with it into separate attachments. YOu can view one
file at a time, but not easily the html file and images, the way it was
intended to appear.
While there's nothing wrong with using hooks in Pine to have some of
these attachments displayed by outside programs, I wouldn't want this to be
native to Pine. It's controversial that Pine can parse HTML alternate
part attachments natively, sheesh.
Sometimes the image files (in pine) include the path, the html file is
expecting, sometimes not. Aften the image files do not have the jpeg or
similar extension, but are named the way the original html file names them.
I would like a strategy for displaying an html files and its images,
without a lot of extra work. Any suggestions?
A present, I extract the main file and images to a directory, inspect the
mail html code for where it expects to find images, and sometimes must
rename the image files a bit. This does not happen in a snap.
Perhaps you'd get a better result by saving, rather than extracting,
although I didn't think Pine offers both options except with the email
message itself. I hope you created a new directory to receive the files.
Without looking at the code, I'll guess that some of the problems with
view files are from unexpected directory levels, minor corruptions added
by the person who sent you the attachment.
Thanks for any suggestions.
My suggestion would be not to use email to transfer Web pages, but I
just have this silly notion that HTML belongs on the Web and that images
shouldn't be embedded in email messages.
