I do not really understand your full question. But as a side note,
under *NIX if script.pl is an executable and under your PATH, then
just writing script.pl works. You're not even forced to use a
particular extension. I have a ~/bin directory in all of my accounts.
Judging from your headers, you may be under Windows. In that case,
it's just the same as long as the .pl extension is registered (if you
use AS's ActivePerl this is done for you by the installation) and both
PATH and PATHEXT are updated accordingly.
