you modify sendmail to send only when you connect to a network; this is how I
did it back in my dial-up days. I recommend installing and configuring
putmail.py, which is an easy way to get your mail to the smart host but not
much more. Putmail-queue.py is a similar package that does what you want, and
the configuration is dead simple. Google it to find it on sourceforge.net.
