If you are able to use ssh (secure shell) on your system, you could ssh to a remote system and then run pine or mutt on that remote system to access your POP3 accounts. If you need a shell account, I maintain a list here:

Remote shell-based email is the old-fashioned way of having a mobile, available-everywhere, "web-based" email.
