Comcast settings

Re Comcast:

Comcast "SmartZone" is two years old,
and Comcast has been instructing to use SMTP on port 587
for at least 18 months, but perhaps they kept port 25 working
until more recently, and forgot to tell existing customers.

Comcast also happens to support the use of "Alternate Ports"
(995 POP, 465 SMTP) over which all traffic is encrypted (SSL).

The good news is that whether you use Comcast over
unencrypted ports (110 POP, 587 SMTP) or the ports above,
you can now use it (including to send outgoing mail)
from anywhere on the internet, so you no longer need
to keep changing the outgoing server as you jet around
with your laptop or cell phone.

Here are Comcast's latest email settings
(displayed in Outlook Express images, but the info is universal):

http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/How-to-verify-Outlook-Express-settings

http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/How-to-configure-Outlook-Express-to-send-and-receive-E-mail-while-traveling

Eudora equivalent of above:

Incoming (POP) server: mail.comcast.net
Secure Sockets when Receiving (SSL for POP):
Either "None" or "Required (Alternate Port)"
(corresponding to the first or second web link above)
Actually, either one of the above should work.

Outgoing (SMTP) server: smtp.comcast.net
Authentication allowed: Yes
For first link above:
Use submission port (587): Yes
Secure Sockets when Sending (SSL for SMTP): None
For second link above:
Use submission port (587): No
Secure Sockets when Sending (SSL for SMTP): "Required (Alternate Port)"
Again, either one of the above should work.
