Russ I had a look at deepmatrix.org and there are a few requirements to
get the server working.. you need Netscape V4.. where can I get this??

http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/download/archive47x.jsp

or can it work with any newer versions or other browsers (that are
available to download), also which java version do I need??

Netscape 4 has its own built JVM. The client applet work with anything
on windows machines but Netscape 4 and IE 4 through 6with the MS JVM.
We are talking antiques here, but it does work.

I do not have MS JVM, can this be downloaded online??
Go to my site http://www.sevenemeraldtablets.net scroll down
and read the red text for lo-down and links to the MS JVM and necessary
security update.

I have Java
2 Enterprise Edition SE V1.5.0 also Java SE v1.4._01, Im running on XP
pro
Good. Either of these is fine for running the server.
(server==sun java&&client==antiques)
I have to admit- I haven't tried 1.50 yet on the server,
but I would be very surprised if it doesn't work.

On another note, there will soon be a new version of
FreeWRL with a hopefully fixed EAI. So I hope to be able to
run the DM client applet on FreeWRL in both Mac and linux
using the Sun Java appletviewer. This new version of FreeWRL
will also have SAI I believe.

Finally, I am not sure which VRML browser you are using and how
"public"
your work is going to be. However, if Contact is your chosen and only
browser
and your work is to be seen by the casual user on their home pc, then
honestly
you are better off using Abnet with its shared events.
The only true advantage of Deep Matrix is its cross platform
capbability,
being able to share a world with all four major Windows VRML plugins.
It can currently run with the Cosmo Beta for Mac and hypothetically
with Irix Cosmo, but Irix has been problematic lately.
