MySQL Client Driver is not properly configured

I am using vw 7.6 and want to connect to my MySQL database (5.0.45),
but I get an error telling me that my client driver is not properly
configured. My database connects to php just fine (via socket). I got
a connection to postgres just fine. I am running MacOS 10.5 and could
use a good shove in the right direction.
