analyzing too-large PDF's

OSX.4.9
I have a case where a Mac application, Filemaker Pro, is creating output
files that are WAY too large. The print job is 10-12 pages with about 100
names/address/phone numbers.
The resulting file crashes as the printer says "not enough memory.."
Printing to a file vice a postscript printer gets me a 24 MB whopper....
The only clue so far is if the developer turns off the bolding on names,
all is well.
My question for here is: What if anything can I tell by looking at that
output file? What tools do I need to do so?
