Very simply, I have a 1-page Word document and 3 single-page TIFF
images, all 8.5"x11", that I want to package as a single .PS file.
The .PS file will then be shipped off to a PostScript-capable printer
somewhere far, far away.
What platform are you using? Do you know the printer model (and installed options, particularly RAM) and do you have the appropriate drivers for your platform? Do you need color management? Are you sending the file
to a 3rd party who will print or are you communicating directly with the printer via vpn or the like?
What is the easiest way to accomplish this with the least amount of
programming, in the Windows 2000/2003 environment?
The project has a budget so purchasing a package such as Adobe Acrobat
or PageMaker is no problem, if it will solve the problem quickly.
Why not use PDF? In the usual workflow, the device specific details are all handled in a computer "close" to the printer running a PDF viewer and
the appropriate printer drivers. The PDF file will have minimal device-specific characteristics (image resolution, CMYK vs RGB colorspace, maybe choice of fonts).
