I deleted the whole post so nobody will WHINE about me "top-posting" (how ridiculous in
this day and time anyway!), however I've been reading it and the very first post in this thread
mimics almost EXACTLY the way FPC did on my laptop. I have a Linux machine, very old,
and it runs FPC just fine "out of the box", so to speak. I figured out the -Opentium3 deal,
but never saw anything else about the fp.cfg file being tied up. After I got that message, I
went and looked for the file, found it, and tried to open it. With the text IDE open, it was
declared to be "in use" by Windows, and when the IDE was closed the file was released. I
can not compile ANYTHING through the IDE because of this and was hoping that some
kind person would address that part of the post.
The only problem I get on Linux is, when opening the text IDE (both machines run 2.2.2, by
the way) it really screws with the key bindings for ALL consoles, and turns the ESC key
into another way to compile while in the IDE. That is, unless I use X and start it from an X
console window. Then it doesn't bother any of the keys, but that's minor compared to the
Windows problem. Anyone have a clue why the fg.cfg file is being held hostage by the IDE?
In Vista, I open a console within Windows, then change to my working dir and type the
standard 'FP' to start the IDE. It's obviously in need of some work, but this is just crazy.
It's really not much more than a glorified Pascal editor when you cannot compile through it.
I even looked at file permissions, and after a while I went so far as to just move the whole
dir structure and try running it from another place, but that did squat as well. Any ideas on
the file being inaccessible?
