Firefox Questions - rules-color and div bleeding through

With Firefox, I was running into 2 display issues with a DIV that
shows a table of results that can be highlighted.

1. For highlighting, I set the row.backgroundColor to blue. I also
tried applying a CSS style to the row. The rules are not changing
colors. How can I change the rule color for these rows?

2. Text and images from a layer in the background are bleeding
through with Firefox. I set the background-color of the layer to
white and the zIndex to 2000 for the layer. Are there other
properties that I need to change for this layer?
