I'm looking for a Linux-based ANS compliant Forth on which to custom
develop a proprietary real-time data mining software for a telecoms
group. I'm assuming the traditional Forth development method of
building a up a custom application language and 'sealing' it into a
standalone executable, while still exposing some of the underlying
Forth's functionalities for maintenance programming and testing.
If I've understood the Gforth licensing terms correctly this is not
possible using Gforth without putting our own code under GPL which of
course would be unacceptable to our client. Is this correct? Are there
any existing Forths that would fit such a requirement?

You could also buy SwiftForth from Forth, Inc., or whatever they
call it now from MPE -- both full-featured professional Forths that
produce good code and have lots of useful tools for a developer --
and license it in an appropriately commercial way.
