Hi Rick,

Hi,
I'm trying to find the source code to Clipper Power Tools by Stephen
Stranley. It appears the company is no longer around and I haven't
been able to find the source any where. I assume someone out there
must have a copy of the source and I'm hoping they are willing to
share. If anyone knows where I can get a copy, I would greatly
appreciate it.
Thanks,

Andi,
I not sure if you got my last message, so I wanted to try again.
As far as I can tell, the people who would have a problem with you
sending me a copy, no longer exist. I know, because I have been trying
to find them for a long time, with no sucess.
With that said, I appreciate your concern to not give away copy
righted code, but I don't see how anyone could concider sending me the
code in violating anything, when the company no longer exists.
I would be more than happy to pay them, if I could find them, or even
pay you for the code. Please let me know what you decide, either way.
Thanks,
Rick
Hi Rick,
Sorry, I really did not get your last message. I am not in a position
to decide since the codes, as you said, are copyrighted and I have not
seen any evidence that Steve has given them as public domain. Here's
one extracted from a PRG file:

#include "Ptvalue.ch"
#include "Ptinkey.ch"

If only I can be convinced that it is OK for me to send you the codes,
then I'll be glad to do it for FREE.

Andi,
Well, I don't know if it is even possible to convince you, but this is
what I've done and have been doing for many months.
I've done searches on Stephen Straley and all types of variations of
the name, with no success. I've found lots of his books and other
information out there, but not him. Oh, and sorry about my previous
spelling of his name, it was just a typo.
I've written to the publisher, Bantam Books, and other variations like
Bantam Computer Books, Random House, Double Day Dell Publishing Group,
Bantam Electronic Publishing and everyone else I found links to, that
might have anything to do with this book, but no one has even
responded.
In the book, it has Sirius Software developement as the people to
contact to purchase the source code. I've done searches for them using
thier name, and variations of the name, the phone number, address and
anything else I could fine, but it appears they don't even exist any
more and the address and phone now belongs to someone else.
I also contacted Oasis and they were the ones that suggested
contacting this group to see if I could find someone that has the
code.
You would think, if anyone was really worried about the copyright on
this code and wanted to make sure they were getting paid for it, they
would have left their contacts active, so people could find them. I
really don't think the copyrights are even in effect any more and
probably haven't been for a while.
Maybe we should put it to a vote. Does anyone out there really see a
problem with sharing this code? Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I
don't see the problem.
I would also like to thank David and Sebas for their suggestions. I've
never done anything like that before, so if I can't get the code, I
may need further assistance from you on how to extract the code.
For the record, I am not a professional programer. I program for
myself and have learned most of what I know by looking at the code
from you gurus out there. Although I have 'rolled my own', as
suggested, on many functions, I really don't want to have to re-invent
the wheel either. I also know, my functions would not be of the same
quality and it has been pretty time consumming, with what I've done so
far.
Once again, I appreciate eveyone's input.
Thanks,
Rick
I searched too with no luck. Sounds to me like you've done everything
you can. If Steve Straley (I have two of his books) was interested in
protecting his copyright or generating revenue from this then it
wouldn't be impossible to find.
I vote that if someone has the source (I don't) then they should send
it to the OP. It's not like you're publishing for the world, but
simply satisfying the request of a single individual.
