1. Run Ip only get rid of all other Protocols
2. tell antivir too exclude dbs, and index's
3. Re-install TCPIP Ive seen this corrupted many times...
but still works....
4. Check locking on The OS
5.System->advance...set the profromance settings on XP
Get Rid of all that pretty Garbage
6. all service packs upto date
i would start with one server(xp) add 2nd computer
check the speed....this is still peer too peer network
so security is a issue on both machines
go from there
