Maybe I can answer my one of my own questions
by comparing the activity between the two NGs..
* comp.lang.basic.visual.misc = avg 15 posts/day
* microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb = avg 50 posts/day
Yeah, but I post questions there, probably 2-3 a week, and don't count
me in the group of those who switched to .Net -- I am about to abandon
it because it is SOOOOO slow. I post questions there and I would say
my question gets answered (effectively) maybe 10% of the time.
Contrast that to my questions here for VB6, in which case my questions
were answered (effectively) 95% of the time. I've posted 2 questions
today -- one has received a response that didn't work (at least not yet
-- asking for more clarification) and the other hasn't received any
responses in a couple of hours. It's pretty basic, too. I'm sure it
is something I'm doing wrong, but no one there will chime with "try
this, idiot!" or "are you SURE you didn't do X?".
I also don't see much crossover between the 2 groups. Maybe a couple
of people, but not much. Here you find about 25 "experts", and there
you get maybe 5. Plus, almost everyone here (I think -- not sure -- I
thought I was in ms.vb.general.discussion...sorry) is using VB6 -- one
version...in that group, you get .Net 2002, 2003, and 2005.
So, between 3 products in 1 newsgroup and 1 product in 2 newsgroups (at
least), 50-15 isn't bad...
Matt
