Hello Friends in Cyberspace,
I bought an external CD-RW(BTC) to back up all my data and have done just
that so things are great on that score. It's nice to hear Michael B. that a
full restore is no fun, even for you.
I have assumed all along, Mike, that the restore CD I have and that I used
to install Windows right at the start-six years ago-can be now be used
without worrying about the things you mentioned. I'm quite careful when it
comes to keeping stuff I that I deem is very important like for example
software for the HP printer I have knowing that I might for some unforseen
reason I might have to reinstall it which is exactly what I will have to do
after a full restore/reformat.
When I was thinking about remembering to back up everything one of the
things that stood out in my mind was copying your program, Mike to a floppy
to save updates of emails to the drafts folder. Do you see what I mean how
tough it can be to think of everything?
I have the latest Norton Internet Virus software and I had a look at it
yesterday. There is a CD in the pack called GoBack and I'll bet my dollar
for a doughnut this will enable me to delete everything on the system after
a certain date and that includes your program, Mike! I'm not too sure about
this and want to spend time reading up the booklet to see if GoBack does
what I think it does. You guys are probably beginning to figure just how
tenacious I am. Years ago a girl told me she believed I worried about things
like a terrier worries aboout a bone he just won't let go of and I can see
she might be right. The problem is though she didn't see or it sounded like
she didn't think this personality trait was an admirable trait but then she
doesn't understand the mind of a scientist and if you want to read up about
just how tenacious we are then read the story of the discovery of C60,
Buckminister Fullerene, Bucky ball by Harry Kroto from the University of
Sussex who shared the Nobel prize with his two American collaborators from
Texas. He knew something very strange was going on and didn't give up till
he got to the bottom of the mystery discovering a brand new form of carbon
in the end. Magnificent!
I want to end this thread for the moment because I have everything I need to
crack this problem even if in the end I have to do a full restore. So let me
beaver away at cracking this problem and if I may, get back to you through
an OT: later. That's a promise and Mike, you already know I keep my
promises. I'm a painfully slow hunt and peck typist but because you have
been so generous to me I always feel compelled to reply to you. I just
couldn't leave the thread without letting you know what is happening in this
particular recess of Cyberspace.
So let us finish up here temporarily till I get can get back to you to let
you know how things pan out. Norton's GoBack may work if I already haven't
ruined everything by using Bleeping Computers's Autoruns.exe too rashly as
I expect I have.
I'm actually thinking of trying to bait the hacker to send me his Trojan
again by clicking on "Try Again" that I described above that will reconnect
me to the Internet and maybe me connect directly to the hacker's portal that
may send me the original Trojan if he anticipates someone has been playing
around with his devilish creation but if this only provokes him heaven only
knows what nasty surprise he has for anyone daring to defy him!
It is real nice meeting you. :)
Peter.
