Hello Mike,
I'm delighted that you saw my message about implementing your code. I
realised later that I didn't need to fire the timer on a second by second
basis and could have set Timer1.Interval= 60000 and then just count up to
the numbr of minutes between saves. This is a simple thing to do. I'm sorry
about appearing to be a slow on the uptake but like most males I'm
programmed to do just one thing at a time and while that so and so virus was
causing problems I was unable to get to OE reliably but the virus in any
event was causing problems even at boot up. You write:
> By the way, have
> you got a "back to out of the box condition" CD with your system.
and I do. I will be mad as hell if I have to reformat the HDD and then
reinstall the applications I use like VB 6.0 along with the relatively small
number of programs I've written compared to the heaven only knows how many
code snippets and complete projects you have written. However you wrote:
> Most stuff can be

and because based on intuition I figure that the virus will hide in the
depths of the system I may have to do this very thing and start from
scratch.
I figured from the start that the best way to stop an attack is to prevent
the virus from ever getting through in the first place so I hope to get
antivirus software now but it might be too late.
You talk about NG's that cover viruses. Can you recommend one where I would
post a question about the ibm00001.exe file that was listed as infected?
When I reinstalled eMbedded Visual Tools and probably replaced the sp.dll
that was as you pointed out from SP HiJacker it was just a coincidence that
the two files had the same name perhaps. However while this had a grand
impact on the system there is still something amiss. I hope by asking you to
recommend an NG that covers viruses I'm not at the same time asking too dumb
a question! When I went to the newsgroups carried by NTL, my ISP, I saw
four, like alt.comp.antivirus for example. Am I on the right track?
Best Wishes,
Peter.
