They are included with the runtime, whether you use them or not... So,
why not use it? Besides, you might want to get used to it, since the
classic Win32 style api is being phased out. The new API is WinFX and
it is .NET based.

I have to ask, if you hate bloat so much - why are using VB at all? Why
not something more light, like PowerBASIC ro C/C++?
