I first did the MS updates and noticed the problems. Then, today, I
checked at ATI and noticed that they had a new version of Catalyst
(5.7) and downloaded that. The uninstall and then install according to
ATI instructions was problematic, appearing to give an endless
hourglass near the end. Closing the Catalyst Install window and
rebooting seemed to work, and I have all the extra tabs in my Advanced
Settings. The problems were still present.

Then I used Device Manager to roll back the video driver to my 2003
version. I did not undo the other MS updates. Everything is back to
working correctly, including the text box problem I thought I still
had. (That was my own code behaving as it should!)

Anyway, I've put a trouble ticket into ATI. I'll post again if they
give me any help.
