To get your lightwave objects into poser:OK, I kinda was expecting this to be the method.
Export them in lightwave to obj format.
Import the wavefront format into poser
I have to say though, I "did" end up spending most of my evening playing with Poser,
and I have to say, I didn't even read anything yet, and I was having a
blast posing my man and his dog scene I made and it was fun!
For a while, I couldn't figure out what was going on, because I couldn't save any
rendered images or do lots of other things, and it turned out (eventually when I noticed)
that it was just my stupid Control key was stuck down LOL
But my point is, that I never used to like the interface of the bryce style of interface,
but it has improved greatly since ages ago, even though it still looks about the same,
it some how seemed easier then before to figure out, so that's what I mean
by I didn't even have to read anything yet to have fun doing stuff.
of course, I WILL read the manual and the forums and such,
but that all takes time and I just had to see what this thing would do.
Your materials will not be loaded, but the material groups and uv maps will be intact, so you can set them, and apply uv maps you'dve created. (keep in mind you can always bake proceedurals in lightwave, and create maps that way.)OK, this is cool.
This is just like with Vue.
As far as the baking bit goes, I STILL have never been able to get that down pat
to where I'm actually in control and know what I'm doing and get the results I want.
Do I need to "first" make the UV map in Modeler and then bake to that in Layout,
or are you saying Layout will create the UV map for me somehow?
Sorry for that lame question, but these UV map issues always get me screwed up.
Also, a few good tips:Registered it first thing last night.
First thing you should do: Register P6,
and download the latest patch for it.. (SR2)But didn't know about anything like an update or anything?
Was kinda supprised that I didn't feel like I had set up an account or anything, like most places do though?
Ya know, like with Vue, when you register, you also are creating an account and from there you can see if you need anything.
And I never got a Welcome email or anything like that, like you usually expect to get.
Meaning, I wasn't sure I did it all correctly or not?
I'll be sure to check back there today and see about getting the updates.
Thanx for that tip :)
When you add additional content, don't just dump everything into the main runtime folder. Create new runtimes, and organize your content by type, character, scenery, somthing that works for you. It's not uncommon to have runtimes with thousands of items in them.Whoa!
Ok, I'll be sure to do that.
Glad I have loads of HD space.
Also, I have no clue what a "runtime" is, but I'm sure I'll read about it soon enough and figure that out :)
Expect Poser's content folder to end up with 30-40 gig worth of stuff. You can link runtimes anywhere, on removable drives, or different partitions.WOW!
THAT MUCH!!!???
My whole C Drive is only 43gigs and most of that is LW and Vue.
Mostly LW, as it's almost 14gigs!, and my whole programs folder is only 7gigs.
And MyDocs is about 10gigs (not sure why?)
Not quite sure where all my used space is being used at, since this doesn't leave much left over?
But I have three HDs, each one larger then the previous one, the C drive being the smallest at 120gigs.
When in poser, you'll have this urge to just grab things in the preview window, and drag them around. Resist that urge.Hmmm...that's what I was doing last night LOL
Though, for more accurate control, I did find myself using the dials.
But why exactly do I want to resist this erge?
Is it because of what I soon found out, that sometimes, you can get yourself all tangled up
and lost and basically can't redeem yourself back to how things were "before" you screwed them all up?
I did soon find out that there was something I truely liked a lot, as it felt more like LW or any other modern
3D program, and that was these controls that at first aren't readily niticable, but are extreamely usefull,
and that's the three axis circle handles for each part of a piece of an object that
gives complete control over how you rotate something.
I really liked those a lot.
Select items or parts in the preview window, and then use the dials to adjust poses.I'll keep this in mind :)
Both Renerosity's Poser forum and RNDA's forum have beginner's guides to poser 6.. download them, and read them. They'll make life MUCH easier!Yep, I plan on doing just that.
Lots of fun reading and exploring ahead.
And yes, I did already load up my dog and man setup
into Vue, just to see how it would work and look.
All was fine and looked great in Vue's render.
