GP-CVS-V4.1.0 -- no history file?

Hello gnuplotters,
yes indeed, it is nice to test the new V4.1.0; but with the CVS-Version V4.1.0 (2005_08_07) there is no history file.
I compare V4.0.0 and V4.1.0 both build on my SuSE9.1 with
configure --prefix=/usr --with-readline=gnu
With V4.0.0 there is a history inside the session and after exit and restart I can access the last commands of the former session via the history which is stored in the file ~/.gnuplot_history.
With V4.1.0 there is
* no access to this history file
* no access to commands given during the former session
* no history file which I noticed.
If you do not save via history command, you have no access to the commands given during the last session.
Since I did not find any thread on this, I would like to ask if this is a bug or a feature of the new V4.1.0?
If it is a default feature: I would like to ask: Are there any parameters, which I must set to the new gnuplot 4.1 to obtain the "old" history mechanism?
I recommend to hold this "old" history mechanism.
Thanks for thinking about this problem.
Michael
P.S. I built a RPM-Archive with checkinstall which I can set up to a FTP-Service if somebody needs it.
