Error "no installable providers" from Gimp 2.4 install
I seem to be up and running, but I thought I'd post this in case
someone else sees the message.
openSuSE 10.2 and Gimp 2.2-as-shipped-with-10.2 installed.
I downloaded the following from
http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.2/i586/:
gimp24-2.4.0-0.pm.2.i586.rpm
gimp24-devel-2.4.0-0.pm.2.i586.rpm
gimp24-doc-2.4.0-0.pm.2.i586.rpm
set up their directory as a YaST "directory" source, selected all
three, and asked YaST to check for dependency conflicts.
One was reported:
"There are no installable providers of gimp for
pattern:imaging-10.20145.i586"
I couldn't find an explanation for this message on the 'web, but I
did download another file from packman that seemed like it might
help:
imaging-10.2-145.i586.pat
With it in the same directory as the other Gimp 2.4 RPMs I retried
the YaST install. Same error message.
This time I chose to ignore it. The installation proceeded with no
error mesages and no otherobvious signs of problems, and Gimp 2.4
started cleanly. I have now edited two images with the new Gimp:
it feels more responsive, and seems to be running fine.
So... what the heck is this file? I didn't even know I _had_
"imaging patterns", let alone whether I should be seeing a doctor
about some antibiotics. Am I missing some critical portion of the
install?
And perhaps as important, does anyone know whether this message
means that there's a problem with the Gimp package from gimp.org, a
build problem from creating the openSuSE 10.2 rpm, or Something
Completely Different?
Hope this helps someone...
