What is the best way to say change the color of a Car? or a Dress that someone is wearing? One other option to change the colour of an object is as follows.
Or pants from say plain Black to PINK or Purple? Or a pattern print? While not losing the folds and creases and such.. or is that not a possibilty?
Create a new, transparent layer, and in the Layer Dialog, change it's mode to either Hue or Colour.
Choose the colour you want to change the object to, and paint into the new layer, making sure you only paint over the object and not the background.
In Hue mode, the top layer will change the hue of the object below it, but leave it's value (dark/light) and saturation (pastel/solid colour) alone.
In Colour mode, the top layer will change both the hue and the saturation, but leave the value alone.
You can also duplicate the new layer after you have finished painting and change to modes to the following setup:
New Layer copy - Hue Mode - between 0-100%
New Layer - Saturation Mode - between 0-100%
Base Image - Normal Mode - 100% opaque.
This allows you to control the saturation (sometimes necessary when dealing with near-white objects) and hue separately.
Be aware that this method works best if you have a simple, white object on a near-black background (Don't have to worry about neatness) or a fast way of painting/erasing on your computer - i.e. a graphics tablet.
The other methods mentioned in this list are best if you have a complex object and a mouse as the physical "painting tool". It may seem that they take a lot of effort, but as the others have hinted, they pay off big. :)
