Thanks Bob, managed to extract the help but I now have a folder called
gimp-help-2-0.10 and several sub folders but no idea what to do with them.
GIMP seems to be a program that assumes a lot of expertise on the part of
it's users. Can anyone help with the next step?

Can someone help me with my inability to read the help files. I haveIf this is for Windows, you might want to download the
downloaded and extracted them and they are sitting there as a .TAR file
but
I cant seem to find any application to associate with it to allow me to
read
it. Also, if I eventually am able to read the TAR file, will it be
available
by using the F1 key in the main GIMP application. At present I get an
error
message telling me there is no .EXE file available.
freeware 7-ZIP to extract the TARs to EXEs.
Worked for me!
