from a fellow newb - try the "clone" tool. First you click where you want
to copy FROM, then you click and hold down where you want to copy to. Gimp
then takes a measurement of the x,y distances you have specified (eg. 32
pixels to the left and 14 pixels up) and copies a section from that distance
to wherever you now have the cursor using the brush shape and
transparancy/density you specify. Its important to realize how this works
because if you are moving along and the jaguar's eye is -32,14 pixels from
where you now have the cursor, you will put a copy of the eye into that
spot! Concequently, I found it helpful to frequently reset the copy from
spot.
