Hey there,
I have a laptop (res: 1280x800) that I sometimes connect to an LCD
monitor (res:1280x1024) in the span mode. Most applications work fine,
however I am having problems with Maya. The height of the Maya window
stays at 800px no matter what I do, maximizing and resizing work only
up to 800px. It seems to be using the max. height of my laptop, which
is the primary monitor but I don't understand why since other
applications such as IE, Photoshop can be resized to 1280x1024 without
any problems. Anyone has any ideas?
A google search with " maya lcd monitor problem" leads to:

with a solution involing "span mode".
well, actually i had read that before posting this thread.. that seems
like a solution for nvidia geforce users, my laptop has "ATI MOBILITY
RADEON X600".
Guru3D.com Forums > Videocards > Videocards - ATI Drivers Section -- has
hundreds of threads dealing with ATI Video Card problems.
X600 is not actually a certified Maya video card which could be your basic
problem, however an interesting thread about soft moding a X600 to a
FirleGLV3200 = 2523 is on this page.

My best quest would be try a different driver, both older and newer drivers
assuming you've already tried a different monitor attached to you laptop (there
is a feedback signature between monitor and video card which may be invalid and
assumes a default 800*600 resolution).
aen...
BTW... I've got a ATI FireGL X2 works fine except that the CHEAP FAN howls like
a banshee when I start the computer. I use the foam covered handle of a
screwdriver and bang on the Video card connector at the back of the computer to
go into "quiet mode". Feels like clubbing baby seals, the cards still under
warranty but I can't afford the 2 months downtime with shipping the card back to
ATI to be fixed.
