So your window is partly off-screen? Pixels that are off-screen are not required to be drawn.

glCopyTexSubImage copies pixels from the screen to a texture image. I presume you created your texture image as 1024x512.

I think nvidia limits the users by screen resolution, and the user can
not draw outside the selected pixel resolution, is that true or am I
doing something wrong?

You should create a pbuffer or framebuffer object to do the off-screen work.
