Drawing 3D semitransparent distribution function

Dear OpenGL Experts,
I have a 2D matrix of MxN floating numbers of a 3D distribution function.
Elements of the matrix represent the hight of the distribution.
I want to display this data set as semitransparent 3D distribution function.
The peak of the distribution will be red and changes its color to blue as it
goes to minima.
Is there any tutorial/demo/example OpenGL program in C/C++ showing how to do
this ?
Thank you.
Artay
