Indeed. As a developer, I see a lot of merit in eliminating redundancy
and I am not religious about technologies. Some people still mourn
Beta and Amiga. But in the end, a slighly "worse" technology may be
better in the long run for everybody if it eliminates doubling or
tripling of every new development costs and times.
That said, *I* would prefer OpenGL instead of Direct3D becoming the de
facto single standard on Windows, purely because switching means extra
work in my particular situation. However, it won't happen and maybe we
should make peace with reality.
