In my case, you need 2 numbers to specify the direction of the line,
then you're left with a 2-dimensional complement (say, the plane thru
the origin and normal to that direction) and you need 2 more numbers
to choose a point on that plane.
Coordinates do not make sense without a coordinate frame which they are
with respect to. What is the coordinate frame of the plane?
You need two numbers to identify a point on a plane independently of
the coordinate frame.
