Registering 3D to 2D coordinates

Hi,

I need to align some 3D coordinates so they match a 2D projection of (possibly) the same object so as to recover the 'angle' the 2D coordinates are at with respect to the unaligned 3D ones.

The 2D and 3D coordinates come from different measuring systems.

Can anyone advise me on how to go about this, particular algorithms I should look into, etc.

Thanks.
.
