Linotype Font Explorer X, Windows XP & System Fonts

Hi all,

I grabbed the above as a replacement for Suitcase (mine's a bit old
and creaky) and as ever with Beta software did a backup of critical
data and created a system restore point prior to installation.

It has however, utterly broken the system fonts - some applications
(notably Suitcase - I think it knew what I was up to) and now displays
a bold 10pt face which can make some applications unusable. It
initially trashed Windows (all fonts vanished, Start Bar, icons, the
lot) but a reboot to "last known working configuration" restored these
to some weird anti-aliased condensed face. This was easy enough to
restore in display properties. It has however, not sorted out my
numerous applications which now display the above mentioned bold face.
XP says the restore point is unusable (I know it's notoriously flaky,
but even so..) so I'm stuck.

It appears I'm not the only one to experience this (Yes. My fault, I
didn't read about FEX before installing) but I was wondering if anyone
has had a similar experience and been able to sort it. Linotype's tech
support have been conspicuously silent on the matter.

In the meantime, I'd seriously recommend anyone consider installing
this that it's not the stated "beta" software. It doesn't even take
alpha status in my book, and seriously does not work with Windows.

Thanks,

Simon
