How would one contact FN or DV if you don't know where to start?
I mean, are they still in the "font business"?

"Free" doesn't necessarily mean "Unrestricted". Many fonts that are free
to download carry exactly the same terms of use as commercial fonts. This
is particularly true for free fonts from major foundries and designers.
In fact, MOST free fonts specifically restrict re-distribution as part of
any commercial endeavor.
So whatever you end up using, read the EULA carefully.
I'd suggest the Florence sans family, which includes numerous variants,
and is definitely free.
The Florence Sans and Florence Sans SC can be downloaded here:

I would contact Fred Nader (originator of Apostrophic Labs) or Derek
Vogelpohl (creator of Florence Sans) to determine what the re-distribution
requirements might be. I would guess that you should have no problems.
