That sounds like exactly what I want but I have emacs 21 now.

You could try installing emacs-snapshot, packages available in
several distributions, and some webpages explain straightforwardly
how to compile it yourself.

I get
ftp> open sudo
ftp: sudo: Unknown host
why is that?
Because you are neither using Emacs 22 nor have you installed tramp.
